Archeology

We can help our guest to get to Sant’Antioco to visit a Tophet and a vast necropolis with Phoenicians, Romans, Greek and Hebrew findings that reflect the considerable influence of ancient peoples on the island.

The particular exibition of the Casa del Bisso is worth a visit for the unique and magic opportunity to meet one of the world’s last spinner of the marine silk called byssus.

The Christian settlements date back to Roman (Empire IV sec. BC), the most significant witness is the church of Sant’Antioco with the catacombs (underground Phoenician thumbs used than by Romans and again by Christians as a place of prayer).

An archaeological museum and ancient stone houses testify the human presence on the island since the pre-historical period. In Sant’Antioco you can visit a Tophet and a vast necropolis with Phoenicians, Romans, Greek and Hebrew findings reflecting the considerable influence of ancient peoples on the island.

The Tower is very close to the house and one can walk to admire the landscape and visit the small archaeologic collection.

The square is also home to night events in the summer. The Tower is the perfect location for civil weddings that often take place there.

The Tower of Calasetta was built in 1729 as a watchtower and defense tower against attacks from the sea, mainly at the hands of Arab pirates.
